Whim

A rental service for premium products, from the brands that make them. Three frontends—the marketing site, the customer portal, and the piece that ships into partner brands' sites.

Fragile is the company and Whim is the product. I was mostly in charge of everything frontend.

Whim rents products by the month from the brands that make them. A customer picks Whim on a partner brand's own site, and for one monthly price we ship the product to their door, new or like-new. From there they can swap it, upgrade it, have it replaced, or request a quote and keep it.

There are three frontends: the marketing site, the customer portal, and the piece that ships into partner brands' sites. I'll dive into each of them below.

Marketing site

whim.com is one page and it's still pre-launch. The headline is "Try the stuff you've been eyeing," the primary action is "Get notified," and around twenty product cutouts are scattered around it.

Three sections follow, alternating text and photo: try for as little or as long as you want, swap or upgrade or replace anytime, and keep what you love.

None of that fits on a phone. The hero drops most of the cutouts and the three sections stack into one column.

Portal

my.whim.com is where customers manage what they have out. Four items in the sidebar—Home, Shop, Payments, and Account—and Home opens on active orders, with completed cancellations behind a disclosure.

An order opens under the brand it came from and lists the items in it. A modal holds the date subscribed, the discount code, a link to the agreement, and the order number.

The shop is the newest part of the portal. Cards lead with a monthly rate and the retail price struck through—$189/mo against $2,999 for an Eight Sleep Pod 5, $34/mo against $499 for a Reencle, $99/mo against $1,795 for a Terra Kaffe TK-02. Above the grid is a bar with the three guarantees: cancel anytime, free shipping, and no cost replacements.

Product pages carry the image, the brand, the monthly rate against retail, a description, and a Checkout button. Size variants are priced as monthly deltas. On the Pod 5, Queen is the default, Full is -$20.00/mo, and King is +$10.00/mo.

At 430px the sidebar becomes a menu and the product grid drops to two columns.
